Former NFL quarterback JaMarcus Russell, who was once the No. 1 draft pick, is currently embroiled in controversy. He was recently fired as a volunteer assistant coach at Williamson High School in Mobile, Alabama. The reason for his dismissal stems from a lawsuit accusing him of mishandling a $74,000 check meant as a donation to the school.
According to reports, a local business owner, Chris Knowles, issued the $74,000 check after Russell approached him with a request for a donation to help the Williamson football team purchase weight room equipment. However, the school never received the donation. Instead, Russell is said to have deposited the check into a credit union account and promptly withdrew $55,000 from it, leaving the intended beneficiaries empty-handed.
Following the scandal, Mobile County Public School officials have taken strict action against Russell. Not only was he relieved of his coaching duties, but he has also been banned from the school’s campus. Even when Russell attended an event for the football team, he was informed that he was not welcome. The school district reiterated their stance on his presence, emphasizing that he is not permitted to be around the football program or on school property.

As a star quarterback at Williamson High School and later at LSU, he showed immense talent and potential.
