The Soccer Tournament (TST) has announced the matchups for its upcoming event, featuring some star-studded teams led by prominent figures from the sports world. Burnley co-owner and NFL legend J.J. Watt’s Burnley squad is set to face off against former NFL punter and ESPN personality Pat McAfee’s Concafa SC team in the first round. The tournament, which will take place from June 5-10 in Cary, North Carolina, will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Men’s and Women’s Brackets
The competition brackets for TST have been divided into men’s and women’s categories. The men’s bracket consists of 48 teams split into 12 groups of four, while the women’s bracket features eight teams divided into two groups of four. Both tournaments will compete for a $1 million winner-take-all prize. US Women, led by former United States teammates Ali Krieger and Heather O’Reilly, will go head-to-head against the Wrexham Red Dragons in an exciting matchup scheduled for June 8.
The lineup of players in the tournament is impressive, with top talents from various sports and leagues participating. Kealia Watt’s Burnley side will take on NC Courage, captained by Watt’s former Houston Dash teammate and USWNT member Jessica McDonald. Formiga, the most capped player in Brazilian national team history, will lead USL Super League side Tampa Bay Sun FC into action. Additionally, former NFL player Chad Johnson will join the Nati SC team, building on his experience from last year’s tournament.
Fans can look forward to thrilling matchups such as Bayern Munich versus Borussia Dortmund, set to take place on May 5. The tournament utilizes a World Cup-style format with custom rules that ensure every game ends on a goal.
